>CITY HALL WILL BE CLOSED TOMORROW
CITY COUNCIL MEETING TOMORROW EVENING

Tuesday, December 18, 2012 - IML News - If all goes well tomorrow, the IML City Council will meet for the first time since the fire on December 5th.
City Hall will be closed tomorrow, during the day, so that workers can feverishly work to clean the building and make it safe. If all goes well, a much needed IML City Council meeting will be held tomorrow evening at 7pm.
Right now there is wiring, duct work, a furnace to be installed, papers to be re-filed and an assortment of electronic devices with all of the cables and wiring all strung about that need to be installed. They need to work, and as of right now, there are too many obstacles and hazzards in the building for the public to be admitted. Safety first. If the building can be cleaned and organized, the Council meeting will be held. If not, the meeting will have to be postponed to a later date. They assure you that they are pushing to get it done, as the City budget and bills need to be reviewed and voted upon in order to be paid, among other things.
A tenative agenda to view will be posted shortly at City Hall.
FYI - Just a note...If you have any payments to be made tomorrow, please put them in the provided drop box next to the City Hall entrance door. Thank you!
~ If there are any changes, we will post them on our Facebook Page.

>BREAKING NEWS....
WATER LINE LEAK ON SPRINGFIELD
WATER SHUT OFF POSSIBLE

Monday, July 23, 2012, 11:35am - IML News - We just got off the phone with Pilot Knob Rural Water, there is a water leak on Springfield within the IML community. Efforts are underway to repair the leak. In order to do so, the water main connected to this leak must be shut off. They are working to find the closest shut-off to the affected area, which should be between Louisiana and Washington. But if the effort fails, the main water supply to the IML community may have to be shut off. This could possibly effect most of the entire community. Expectations to repair the leak is one to two hours. But experience tells us that things could take longer. Take precautions and reserve water for your everyday uses. Call neighbors and the elderly to inform them of the possible water shut off.
We will post further information on our FACEBOOK page.
Note: Service was resumed at 2:53pm.

>MAYOR RESIGNS – DNR WANTS UPGRADES FOR SEWER SYSTEM
UPDATED: February 15, 2012 With Audio Of Meeting
Tuesday, February 14, 2012 – IML News – Much of tonight’s City Council Meeting revolved around conversations that were held in a special meeting that was held last week between the Department of Natural Resources and Alderman Roger Stodgell and maintenance worker Sonny Davis. The subject was about the IML sewer system. According to the DNR, an agreement with our City, dating back in 2010, was made and that a review must be done of our sewer system by a licensed engineer. Then according to their findings, compliances must occur for any improvements and/or alterations in order to maintain a current and safe operating sewer system. Also included is a mandatory inflow-outflow chlorinator/de-chlorinator system that must be installed to meet current EPA standards. All and all, this whole process is very expensive and will require a grant to accomplish. The process is a three step process and we are rapidly closing in on the first of three deadlines. As each passing deadline occurs, and is not met, the City would be subject to very stiff fines and a possible takeover of our sewer plant by the authorities.
The DNR also had something to say about our sewer bill collections and the very low cost of our sewer bills. They pointed out that our sewer bill rates do not meet inflationary monetary standards, and cannot meet the needs for proper maintenance and improvements. With our current conditions, and the need to be able to float the cost of a grant, they suggested an increase to a monthly rate of $40.00 - $45.00 a month. They also mentioned that if a better effort was made to make collections of money owed and proper audits done to ensure that everyone is receiving a bill that has sewer service to their property, this could lower the rate to a reasonable cost for all. But everyone needs to receive a bill and also to be paying their bills promptly.
This then lead Council to the conversation to amend Ordinance #36, whereby property owners, and not renters, are responsible for their sewer payments and that bills which become three months past due would be subject to disconnection. The ordinance would also provide a fair opportunity to those with past due amounts to repay them. They would be allowed to make arrangements, whereby they could repay the past due amount, plus their monthly bill, in three equal monthly payments to avoid disconnection. But if a payment is missed the agreement is considered broken and the sewer will be immediately disconnected. In order for the service to be restored the bill must be paid in full, a reconnection fee paid and a possible deposit would be required.
A public hearing on the ordinance change is to be held on Monday, March 12, 2012 at 6pm. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
In closing, Mayor Eugene Henson made a statement. He announced that he was resigning, as of this evening, sighting that he and his wife are having health issues and that he wanted to spend more time at home with his ailing wife, Wanda. The Board voted to accept his resignation and then appointed Brian Goodman, Board President, to serve as interim Mayor until the April election.

As a follow-up, we spoke with Sergeant Lavander about the recent break-ins on the west side of IML. He reported that there have been no further incidents. >FYI – IML BREAK-INS IN WARD 1
Sunday, January 29, 2012 - IML News - FYI - Recently there have been several break-ins in the Ward 1 area of Iron Mountain Lake.
Earlier in the month there was a break-in on St. Louis Ave. And now the most recent was last night.
During the night a detached garage, on Wayne Dr. was robbed. The home owners believe the incident occurred at about 1am, when the neighborhood dog was barking much louder than usual. When the victims arose this morning they had discovered that their garage had been broken into. Upon inspection, there were items moved and placed next to the door, such as a sawsall, power saw and other power equipment. Upon further inspection it was revealed that their generator and several cans of gas had been stolen. They believe that when they awoke from the dog barking, turned on a light, and looked out the window, it must have scared the thieves off. The owners believe they were also going to take the items left at the door, but were interrupted.
If you have any information regarding these break-ins please contact our local police at, 573-431-3131 or make a report at IML City Hall, Monday through Thursday 8am till 4pm.
As of right now, some of the neighbors are uniting to form an impromptu Neighborhood Watch. Those who are interested in participating can contact Ward 1 Alderman Dan Edwards at 573-734-6697.

>MR. SONNY DAVIS NOT FIRED???
Tuesday, January 17, 2012 - IML News - There was a special City Council Meeting held this evening.
The original agenda for tonight's meeting was to have a "discussion of hiring a sewer system operator".
Even before the meeting was declared in session, the Mayor, Eugene Henson, and several members of the Board were openly discussing the current sewer system issues. Apparently the system had shut down due to a power outage during the storms early this morning. And in order to restart the system, certain things must be done and procedures followed in order to restart the system and to avoid a total mishap. It was determined by Mayor Henson that Mr. Sonny Davis should be called and asked to help with this situation.
Shortly after 7pm the meeting was called to order by Mayor Henson. Alderman Edwards, Goodman, Stodgell and Gossett were in attendance. The Mayor opened the meeting with a statement which discussed the recent sewer issues and then made a recommendation to retain Mr. Davis' services. Although the purpose of the meeting was to have a "discussion of hiring a sewer system operator", the discussions turned quickly, and it was determined that Mr. Davis was not fired and therefore a new employee was not needed.... The discussions were far too complicated to try to relate in my own words to you, the public. the citizens of Iron Mountain Lake. I will be uploading the audio of the meeting and will post it as soon as possible. I will let you discern the meeting for yourself.......
